One of the most uproariously funny musicals in recent years, Urinetown is the next installment for red-hot Theatre Raleigh. The show runs Wednesday, August 6- 11 at Fletcher Opera Theater at the Duke Energy Center and is part of the Hot Summer Nights Series.

Urinetown is a hilarious tale of greed, corruption, love, and revolution in a time when water is worth its weight in gold. In a Gotham-like city, a terrible water shortage, caused by a 20-year drought, has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. The citizens must use public amenities, regulated by a single malevolent company that profits by charging admission for one of humanity's most basic needs. Ages 13+.

Tickets range from $29-$37 and can be purchased through Theatre Raleigh website http://www.theatreraleigh.com or www.ticketmaster.com.

"Urinetown carries a very real warning of how out of control big businesses, corrupt government, wanton public consumption and climate change could be the very undoing of society as we know it. This warning is wrapped up very cleverly in the trappings of everything that we love, and love to make fun of, in musical theatre! The show hilariously comments on other famous Broadway shows while telling a dark but hysterical story of its own. Who ever thought that Thomas Robert Malthus and his theories of population expansion would ever make it into a musical? The writers of Urinetowndid," said Richard Roland, Director.

Richard Roland (Director) directs Brennan Caldwell (Bobby Strong), Raymond Sage* (Caldwell B. Cladwell), Cameron Caudill (Hope Cladwell),Rachael Moser (Little Sally), David Hess* (Officer Lockstock) and Courtney Balan* (Penelope Pennywise).

Lauren Kennedy (Artistic Director), Michele Weathers (Managing Director) and Alan Campbell (Exec Director) have conspired in another hilarious hostile takeover of Fletcher Opera Theater with this satire of the legal system, capitalism, social irresponsibility, populism, bureaucracy, corporate mismanagement, municipal politics and musical theatre itself.

The shows creative team includes Chris Bernier (Set Designer), Julie Bradley (Music Director), Lauren Kennedy (Choreographer), Eric Collins(Sound Design), Jennifer Sherrod (Lighting Design), Lauren Juengel* (Stage Manager), Denise Schumaker (Costume Designer) and Eileen Tack(Prop Master).

Additional crew includes Liz Ray (Assistant Director), Morgan Parpan (Assistant Stage Manager)and Katie Hipschman (Assistant Stage Manager).
