William Peace University's Theatre Department will present Stephen Sondheim's INTO THE WOODS from February 13-23, 2013 at the Leggett Theatre. BroadwayWorld is thrilled to welcome one of the shows's stars, Maigan Kennedy (who will play The Baker's Wife), as she blogs the exciting journey to the stage.
Check out her first post below and stay tuned for more from behind-the-scenes!
Hello, BroadwayWorld! My name is Maigan, and I will be playing the Baker's Wife in William Peace University's upcoming production of Into The Woods.
This is me smiling.
But I will usually be making some variant of this face.
This is Jason Dula. He is WPU's assistant professor of musical theatre, and our director for Into The Woods.
Over the break, Jason's fiance, Courtney, with the help of her good friend Celia Keenan-Bolger, gave Jason a miniature poster autographed by James Lapine, broadway legend. Here is a picture of me holding the framed poster.

We had our first table read on Monday night. We were all nervous-- it was the first time we made this journey together from start to finish, but it was a great success. Personally, I made several discoveries about my character and her relationship with her husband, but we'll get to that later. Jess, our phenomenal dance captain and Milky-White, took these pictures of our table read.
Warming up.
I love this shot.
Did you know that the opening is 20% of this show?

With the help of my wonderful cast mates, I will continue to update this blog with more tales of our adventures Into The Woods. Please stay posted!
Maigan Kennedy is a sophomore in the Musical Theatre BFA program at William Peace University. Before college, she spent a year in Turkey, where she learned the language and taught music to children. She has played Celimene in a student adaptation of Moliere's The Misanthrope, and Jesus in Godspell. In her spare time, she enjoys playing the cello, transposing Gregorian chant, and writing autobiographical blips. She lives in Raleigh, NC with her coffee maker and sundry overdue library books.
