Thanks to strong ticket sales and fantastic feedback from audiences, Shear Madness - Charlotte's all-time longest running theatrical hit that opened April 9 at the new Stage Door Theater - has extended its run through Sunday, Sept. 6, Blumenthal Performing Arts Center President Tom Gabbard announced today. Originally slated to close June 6, Shear Madness has added three months of performances in Charlotte, which will follow an exclusive one-month engagement in Blowing Rock.

"Charlotte audiences are showing us again that they love SHEAR MADNESS," Gabbard said. "There's so much laughter in the Stage Door Theater every night as they get involved to unravel the case. We've seen lots of familiar faces as fans keep returning for their second and third visit. They know that the show is different each time it plays and the localized jokes are always fresh. The repeat visitors also bring along new folks who quickly find out why SHEAR MADNESS is Charlotte's longest running theatrical hit."

After the final performance of the current run of SHEAR MADNESS on June 6, the show will pack up from the Stage Door Theater and go on the road to the Mariam & Robert Hayes Performing Arts Center in Blowing Rock for a limited run, June 10 - 28. This is the first time the Blumenthal has ever taken one of its shows on the road.

Thanks to a brand new partnership with the Blowing Rock Stage Company, the Blumenthal's production of SHEAR MADNESS will play the Hayes Center in the mountains for an exclusive three-week run. Everything from the actors and the set - down to the last pair of hair cutting scissors - will move to the mountains for the month of June.

"This show has been such a hit in Charlotte so we knew we had to take it on the road to give a whole new group of theatergoers the chance to fall in love with SHEAR MADNESS," said Gabbard. "We're excited to work with the Blowing Rock Stage Company to create all-new local laughs and references for mountain audiences. The professional Equity cast makes fresh new changes to the script every day based on the hot headlines. Add that to that hilarious interaction between the audience and the fast-thinking actors, and it's never the same show twice."

Tickets for the Blowing Rock engagement can be purchased online at CarolinaTix.org or HayesCenter.org, by phone at 828-295-9627 or at the Hayes Center box office (152 Jamie Fort Rd. in Blowing Rock).

SHEAR MADNESS will return to its home at the Stage Door Theater from Thursday, July 9 through Sunday, Sept. 6. Tickets for the newly added July, August and September performances in Charlotte start at $29.50 and are available now. Tickets for cabaret tables and orchestra seats are available online at BlumenthalCenter.org, by phone at 704.372.1000 or at the Stage Door Theater box office before the performance. Discounts are available for groups of 10 or more by calling 704-379-1380.

The newly created Stage Door Theater features cabaret table seating, as well as traditional theater seats. A special menu of food and beverages can be enjoyed in the theater. Only 157 seats are available per performance, creating an intimate atmosphere perfect for this show.

More than eight million people around the world have seen SHEAR MADNESS and made it America's favorite comedy for nearly 30 years. Charlotte fans were no exception. The show's 2006 inaugural engagement at the Center was extended four times past the originally planned end date, ultimately becoming the longest running show in Charlotte theater history with 210 performances.
