RLT's production of "Mothers and Sons" is the North Carolina premier of Terrence McNally's family drama, which starred Tyne Daly and ran on Broadway in 2014. It opens on Friday, September 23 and opens the Theatre's City Series of contemporary plays.

"'Mothers and Sons' is a story about humans, no matter what walk of life, being able to deal with the past, continue to live in the present and be hopeful. It is more than just a play for gay audiences, but it is a play that happens to have gay characters. It puts a mirror up to the audience and asks, how do you deal with what life has dealt you? I am honored to be given such a relevant and important show to bring to the community," said Tim Locklear, who directs the production.

A woman named Katherine Gerard pays an unexpected visit to the New York apartment of her late son's partner, Cal Porter. He is now married to another man and has a young son. Katherine must face how society has changed around her. Generations collide as she revisits the past, confronts the grief of her son's loss and begins to see the life he might have led.

There will be a post-show discussion on Thursday, September 29 in partnership with the LGBT Center of Raleigh, moderated by Tim Locklear with panelists Patsy Clarke (co-author of "Keep Singing"), James Miller (Executive Director of the LGBT Center) and Lee Storrow (Executive Director of the NC AIDS Action Network).

The production runs September 23 - October 9 in the Gaddy-Goodwin Teaching Theatre. Tickets for all events at RLT can be purchased by calling the box office (919)-821-3111, Monday through Friday, noon to 5:00 p.m., or by visiting the theatre's website at www.raleighlittletheatre.org.
