Raleigh Little Theatre's Teens On Stage & Teens Backstage present the classic musical, Fiddler On The Rooffrom July 25 - August 3rd in the Gaddy-Goodwin Teaching Theatre. This is the 30th production in the history of the Teens on Stage / Teens Backstage Program, a five week conservatory and training program that involves teens in all aspects of production.
Rich in historical and ethnic detail, Fiddler on the Roof has touched audiences around the world with its humor, warmth and honesty. The universal theme of tradition cuts across barriers of race, class, nationality and religion, leaving audiences crying tears of laughter, joy and sadness.
Set in Tsarist Russia in 1905 and is based on the story of Tevye the Milkman by Sholem Aleichem. The story follows father of 5 Tevye as he tries to uphold tradition in an ever changing political and social landscape. During a period of change for Russian Jews, the family learns to cope with the decline of Tsarist Russia and the tough laws enforced on the family and the village of Anatevka. The musical is extremely popular all over the world, and was the first Broadway show to play for over 3,000 performances.
This summer is also the 25th anniversary of the Gaddy-Goodwin Teaching Theatre. RLT will celebrate with a birthday party, "Happy Birthday Gaddy-Goodwin," on Saturday August 9th from 10a-3p. The event will include entertainment for adults and children, including storytelling, a visit from the Scrap Exchange, and excerpts of past performances in the space.
