This Friday, The Importance of Being Earnest opens at Raleigh Little Theatre for a 3-week run, helmed by guest director John T. "Jack" Hall. Earnest is one of the most cherished plays in the English language, featuring Oscar Wilde's unique brand of social satire, effervescent wit, and high farce.
Acting since six and directing since college, this is Jack's sixth directing gig at RLT and his 67th production at RLT since 1973. In graduate school Jack played Canon Chasuble in Earnest, then followed that as Lane, Algernon's manservant, at Baltimore's professional Center Stage. Locally, he has appeared in two Agatha Christie thrillers at NCSU's Theatre Fest-2010, as Big Daddy in Cat On A Hot Tin Roof at TIP, in Uncle Vanya at William Peace University, and in The Sound of Music and Patience at Meredith College.
Brook North will play the role of Jack, in his first appearance at RLT. Gus Allen, in the role of Algernon, returns after playing the role of Will in an acclaimed production of Bus Stop at RLT. Rebecca Johnston plays the role of Lady Bracknell, returning to the RLT stage after a several year hiatus.
