In advance of Once On This Island, Raleigh Little Theatre will present a mini-festival examining the culture and history of Haiti and examining the island nation's cultural dialogue with the United States. The highlight of this is a scholar talk on Sunday, May 19 called "Haiti on Stage & Screen," led by Duke professor Laurent Dubois.

Other elements include ongoing open rehearsals and book clubs throughout Wake County Public Libraries. The final open rehearsal is scheduled forSaturday, May 18 at Cameron Village Regional Library at noon, and will include the opportunity for attendees to participate.

Once On This Island is directed by L.D. Burris, a former member of Chuck Davis' African American Dance Ensemble. It runs from June 7-23, 2013 in the Cantey V. Sutton Theatre. The musical was nominated for eight Tony's during its Broadway run, and this is the first production in the Triangle in several years.

Tickets for the scholar event on May 19 at 4pm are free, as are the open rehearsals and book clubs. Tickets for Once On This Island are reserved seating and are $22 for adults and $18 for seniors and students. Tickets for all events can be purchased by calling the box office (919)-821-3111, Monday throughFriday, noon-5:00 p.m., or by visiting the theatre's website at www.raleighlittletheatre.org.
