A lively musical version of Carlo Collodi's classic tale, Pinocchio, is the final Youth Series play in RLT's 2013-14 season, opening on Friday, April 18 in the Cantey V. Sutton Theatre. The play is directed by Linda O'Day Young, RLT's Youth Theatre and Education Director.
In addition to plays, RLT offers an extensive youth education program starting at age four, which is now enrolling for summer camp. "Eleven of the 18 young cast members in Pinocchio have taken classes or camps at RLT. Parker Perry, who plays Pinocchio himself, is sixteen years old and began taking classes when he was ten. This will be his seventh show here," said Young.
The Theatre recently announced the hiring of a new Artistic Director, Patrick Torres. Mr. Torres will join the Theatre this summer after relocating from Austin, Texas, where he is currently Program Director at Creative Action. He previously served as Associate Artistic Director of Young Playwrights' Theater (YPT) and a teaching artist and directing fellow at Washington DC's Shakespeare Theatre Company. He has been recognized by the White House for a program he designed and ran while at YPT. He is RLT's fourteenth artistic director and first artist of color to hold the position. Mr. Torres was chosen for his unique combination of artistic and professional achievement, leadership skills and vision.
Tickets for all events at RLT can be purchased by calling the box office (919)-821-3111, Monday through Friday, noon-5 PM, or by visiting the theatre's website at www.raleighlittletheatre.org.
