North Carolina Theatre (NCT), the region's premier producer of professional Broadway musicals, is excited to announce the casting for CATS, their first show on the exciting 2013/14 season. The show that revolutionized musical theatre is making its NC Theatre premiere from October 8 - 13, 2013 at Raleigh Memorial Auditorium in the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts. Check out a first look below!
Based on T.S. Eliot's OLD POSSUM'S BOOK OF PRACTICAL CATS, and with music by legendary Andrew Lloyd Webber, CATS won seven 1983 Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, Best Lighting and Best Costumes. CATS tells the story of the Jellicles, a tribe of cats who assemble for their annual junkyard ball where they announce the cat that will be reborn.
Casting includes Kenneth Prymus as "Old Deuteronomy", who played the role on Broadway for 7 ½ years. The production will also star Thay Floyd as "Rum Tum Tugger" from NC Theatre's The Producers and A Christmas Story on Broadway and Jennifer Shrader as "Grizabella" (Broadway's Beauty and the Beast, Swing!) Also appearing is Raleigh native and ECU graduate Kinsland Howell as "Demeter" (Tours: Young Frankenstein, A Chorus Line), NC favorite Dirk Lumbard (NCT's The Drowsy Chaperone, Legally Blonde) and Kathleen Lynch as "Jellylorum" most recently appearing in Theatre Raleigh's 23rd Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.
