The board of North Carolina Theatre, Raleigh's premiere, non-profit professional regional theatre announces that Lisa Grele Barrie will be leaving North Carolina Theatre at the end of the year after serving the company for thirteen years with eight in the role of President & CEO.
Her tenure has been notable for championing a culture of philanthropy and community collaboration; building a six-show season strategy in partnership with the City of Raleigh; growing new audiences through patron loyalty strategies and expanding education outreach programming.
Lisa's legacy also includes building capacity across all levels of the performing arts non-profit underpinned by healthy governance and a strategic team culture. She joined the company in 2003 as Development Director, was promoted to Managing Director in 2008 and was named President & CEO in 2009 after a national search. "I feel very privileged to have spent the greater part of my career serving a theatre company with an exceptionally talented, passionate groups of artists, patrons and volunteers including an A-Team of staff and board members and am so proud of all that we've accomplished together. I look forward to contributing to the creative community in the next chapter of my professional career in Raleigh," said Barrie.
Board President Dan Bryson noted, "Lisa has provided steady, innovative leadership to the organization during incredibly challenging times. As a result, NCT is a stronger, healthier performing arts non-profit with artistic excellence at an all-time high. She leaves the Theatre with a solid leadership team and engaged board in place to advance our next chapter of growth and success. Her genuine commitment to our patrons was truly inspiring."
A CEO Selection Committee has been formed chaired by past Board Chair, Mitch Perry and includes current Board Chair Dan Bryson, VP/Governance Don Stroud, VP/Development, Debbie Hammersla, VP/Education Su Shearin, and board members Amy Strecker and Jack Finley with support from consultant Kathryn Gamble. They will be interviewing candidates over the next several months with plans to have a successor firmly in place at the end of Lisa's tenure. Artistic leadership is strong on the main stage and Conservatory with Casey Hushion as Artistic Director, CaroLee Baxter as Producer, Bill Yates as Technical Director and Ray Walker as Conservatory Artistic Director. Development Director Melanie Doerner leads all fundraising and community engagement activities in partnership with the board of directors.
