"Opening our season with 'Memphis' is exciting not only because it as a wonderful and relevant musical, but also because it gives us the opportunity to feature actors who have never been onstage at RLT. These performers are among the best I have ever had the privilege of working with around the country, and I could not be happier to offer them opportunities here at our theatre," said Torres.
Audiences will have an opportunity to see excerpts from the play at two community festivals - Packapalooza (August 20) and The African American Cultural Festival of Raleigh & Wake County (September 3).
None of the adult plays in RLT's 2016/17 Season have ever been produced by the Theatre in its 80 year history. Next up is Terrence McNally's "Mothers and Sons," followed by "The Whipping Man," "One Man, Two Guvnors," "A Piece of My Heart" and "Avenue Q." RLT also presents a Family Series of three plays and "Cinderella," now in its 33rd year.
"Memphis" is sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina. The production runs August 19 - September 4 in the Sutton Theatre. Tickets for all events at RLT can be purchased by calling the box office (919)-821-3111, Monday through Friday, noon to 5:00 p.m., or by visiting the theatre's website at www.raleighlittletheatre.org.
