After the Revolution, by Amy Herzog, will open Deep Dish Theater Company's eleventh season and run August 26 to September 17 at University Mall.

The Josephs are a family of activists - radical, strong-willed and happier arguing Marxist politics than facing the effects they have on one another. When Emma, granddaughter of a blacklisted economist, invokes her ancestor's name in an effort to liberate an imprisoned leftist, she finds her legacy is not at all what she was led to believe....

"After the Revolution is quite an astonishing play," said the Director Paul Frellick. "It is a beautifully crafted study of how we pass on ideals from generation to generation, and it feels like the kind of play a writer would produce at the end of her career, not, as is the case with Ms. Herzog, at the outset. Her writing has a rueful wisdom that belies her age."

This Deep Dish production boasts a talented cast, including: Patsy Clarke, Susannah Hough, Jess Jones, John Paul Middlesworth, Omar Morales, Jack Prather, Rod Rich and Mara Thomas. The design staff includes Rob Hamilton (set), Liz Droessler (lights), LeGrande Smith (costumes), Megan Thrift (properties), and Becca Easley (sound). Jen Bauer will stage manage.

The theater will present post-performance discussions on Thursday, September 8 (a "Meet the Designers" discussion with the production staff) and Sunday, September 11 with the cast and Dr. Barbara True-Weber of Meredith College. Dramaturg Karen Blansfield will give a pre-show "Meet the Play" talk on Friday, September 2, at 7 p.m. The Deep Dish Book Selection, In the Garden of Beasts by Erik Larson, will be discussed on Monday, September 12 at 7 p.m. at Flyleaf Books.

Performances begin Wednesday and Thursday at 7:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m., and Sunday (matinee) at 2 p.m. Deep Dish is located in Chapel Hill's University Mall, Estes Drive and US 15-501.

Tickets are $19 for adults and $17 for seniors, with a $2 discount for Wednesday and Thursday performances. Student tickets for all shows are $14. Wednesday, August 31 is "Cheap Dish Night" - all tickets are $10 (no reservations accepted). Tickets are available at the Deep Dish box office in University Mall, Wednesday to Saturday from 3 to 6 p.m.; by phone at (919) 968-1515; and online at www.deepdishtheater.org.

The Deep Dish Theater Company is committed to presenting compelling, human-centered dramatic work that contributes to the cultural richness of the Triangle area and challenges audiences to explore concerns of the community and the world-at-large.
