There are three big events coming up at Burning Coal Theatre Company.

First: Burning Coal Theatre Company presents a workshop reading of Story of Home, an original full-length play by Elon University’s Logan T. Sutton and directed by Ian Finley on Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at 7:30 pm at the Murphey School 224 Polk Street, Raleigh, NC. Taking a turn from the traditional epic as told by Homer, this play focuses its attention not on Odysseus, the mythic hero, but rather on the family he left behind and explores the struggles they were made to endure as "the waiting." Suitable for all ages. Join us for this very special one-night staged reading. FREE with suggested $5 donation at the door. Information: 919-834-4001.

Second: Greensboro’s rollicking Mon Frere standup comedy team returns for a second and final week of Hufflepuffed this Thursday through Sunday, August 23 – 26, 2012. All shows 8 pm except Sunday at 2 pm. All tickets $10. Information and tickets at 919-834-4001 or www.burningcoal.org. Hufflepuffed is not suitable for children under 14 and we recommend a parent or guardian for kids under 16.

Third: Burning Coal opens its 16th season in Raleigh with the classic musical Brigadoon directed by Emily Ranii, September 6 – 23, 2012. Performances Thursdays through Saturdays at 7:30 pm and Sundays at 2 pm. Tickets $20 or $15 for students, seniors and active military. Thursday tickets are all $10. First Sunday (September 9 at 2 pm) is Pay What You Can day and audio described for the vision impaired. Tickets and information 919-834-4001 or www.burningcoal.org.

Burning Coal Theatre Company is one of Raleigh's small, professional theatres. Burning Coal is an incorporated, non-profit [501 (c) (3)] organization. Burning Coal's mission is to produce literate, visceral, affecting theatre that is experienced, not simply seen. Burning Coal produces explosive reexaminations of overlooked classic and modern plays, as well as new plays, whose themes and issues are of immediate concern to our audience, using the best local, national and International Artists available. We work toward a theatre of high-energy performances and minimalist production values. The emphasis is on literate works that are felt and experienced viscerally, unlike more traditional linear plays, at which audiences are most often asked to observe without participating. Race and gender non-specific casting is an integral component of our perspective, as well as an international viewpoint.
