Burning Coal Theatre Company announces a new Integrated Acting Class to be taught by Broadway veteran Lori Mahl.  The class will run Tuesday evenings from 7 to 10 p.m., January 4 through February 1st, 2011 in Raleigh.  Tuition is $100 for the five week class.  Please contact Burning Coal at 919-834-4001 or visit us online at www.burningcoal.org for further details and to enroll.

This class is designed for experienced actors who are interested in exploring another acting technique or giving their acting chops a workout outside of the performance experience.   Ms. Mahl has based the class on the precepts of Sande Shurin, Tim Phillips, and Sanford Meisner (via  William Esper).  She says "I love acting classes that give actors immediate access to new parts of themselves and new skills to put directly into their work.  Each week I will teach a different distinction that you will put directly into scene work.  I teach techniques that I used myself as a professional actress for 2 decades.   In the real world of acting, no one waits for us to "prepare" or get better, they just want us to do it!  My specialty is helping actors get out of their heads and back into their bodies so they have a visceral, fully-realized expression of the character.  It's very exciting to get your work to this level so I hope to see you in class."

Lori Mahl was based in NYC for 20 years.  Broadway credits include "Agnes" in Tony award-winning revival of Gypsy directed by Arthur Laurents, and "Minnie Fay" in Hello, Dolly! starring the legendary Carol Channing and directed by Lee Roy Reams.  National tours include the previously mentioned as well as "Tiger Lily" in Peter Pan starring Cathy Rigby.  Regional credits- Goodspeed Opera House, Ordway Music Theatre, AMTF,  American Repertory Theatre, Jupiter, North Carolina Theatre,  The MUNY, Kansas City Starlight, among others.  Principle roles in over 100 television and radio commercials.  Featured role in the film Radioland Murders  produced by George Lucas. The voice of "Bunny" in Courage the Cowardly Dog (Cartoon Network).  Other NYC credits include "Babby" in Halfway Home at The New Group, "The Boy" in Kidstuff at Lincoln Center Director's Lab, and "Sally" in The Tavern at Equity Library Theatre.  Locally: "Borachio" in Much Ado About Nothing, multiple roles in 2010 10X10 in the Triangle.  Teaching experience:   NYC-  Five years at the Sande Shurin Acting Studio,  private coaching.  Locally-  RLT, Burning Coal Conservatory, guest instructor for NC Theatre Arts Educators Annual Conference, numerous high schools, and as a private coach.
