Following up on its critically-acclaimed summer production of the Henry VI plays, Bare Theatre concludes William Shakespeare's "War of the Roses" saga with Richard III at Sonorous Road, November 4 - 20, 2016.

The play begins where Henry VI: The War of the Roses ends. The House of York has defeated the House of Lancaster. King Henry VI and his heir, Prince Edward, are dead and Richard's older brother, Edward, is on the throne. Now Richard can begin to implement his own plan to take the crown. In Richard III, one of Shakespeare's most calculating villains schemes, charms, and manipulates his way to the throne.

Cantey award winning actor, Seth Blum, continues his "magnetic" journey as Richard with "an implacable, shark-like intellect and ambition." Joining him in continuing the roles from Henry VI are Rebecca Blum as Margaret, Maggie Lea as Queen Elizabeth (formerly Lady Gray), and Pimpila Violette as Hastings. We also bring the post-apocalyptic setting, first visited in the summer production, inside to the intimate environment of Raleigh's fledgling Sonorous Road.

Continuing the post-modern setting used in Henry VI, director Lucinda Danner Gainey echoes Shakespeare's staging techniques to create a passionate experience with the actors, the audience, and the text. The set is minimal and unchanging with lights on the audience as well. Actors will engage with the audience throughout the performance with no fourth wall.

Tickets and rewards including signed show posters, photos of audience members on the set throne, and even the king's crown are available by contributing via Kickstarter, open through November 18.

Bare Theatre, a Raleigh-based theatre company, works to connect with audiences by applying new approaches to time-honored works and presenting new works from local artists. The company recently received rave reviews for its Raleigh and North Carolina debut of Allan Maule's EverScape, with Dustin Britt writing for Triangle Arts & Entertainment calling the show "The The Theatrical Event of the Season."
