Auditions for The Green Room Community Theatre's opening show for the 2011-2012 season, The Wizard of Oz, are scheduled for Sunday, July 10 & Monday, July 11, 2011.

Auditions will be held at the Old Post Office Playhouse located at 10 South Main Avenue, Newton, NC 28658. Please enter at the lower level door at the back of the building (on South Ashe Avenue). Those interested in Munchkin roles should come at 5:30 pm either day. All others should come at 7:00 pm.

There are roles available for boys and girls, men and women, age 5 and up. The Wizard of Oz is a musical, so please prepare a song (about 2 pages worth). The song does not have to be from The Wizard of Oz but should be from the musical theatre genre. Please bring sheet music for the accompanist. A cappella auditions are discouraged. Wear comfortable clothing for a possible movement audition.

No prepared monologues are necessary, and there may be some cold reading from the script. You must be able to be at all performances of the show, including scheduled school shows. Please be prepared to stay for the entire audition time (Munchkins will be dismissed after their auditions).

The Wizard of Oz is produced by Corning Cable Systems and is directed by John David Brown III and David Townsend with musical direction by Cathy Banner. Production dates are September 2, 3, 9, 10, 16, & 17 at 8:00 pm and September 4, 11, & 18 at 3:00 pm. School shows are scheduled for September 19 & 20.

This production of The Wizard of Oz is based on the book by L. Frank Baum and adapted by John Kane from the motion picture screenplay. Music and Lyrics of the MGM motion picture are by Harold Arlen & E.Y. Harburg with background music by Herbert Stothart.
