The new project, prepared for Laterna magika by the director Alice Nellis, depicts the last days of Jules Verne. The writer, bed-ridden and slipping in and out of consciousness, is surrounded by images of landscapes and stories from his most famous books (Five Weeks in a Balloon, Journey to the Centre of the Earth, Twenty Thousand Leagues under the Sea) alternating with apocalyptic visions of the future from the “forgotten” novel Paris in the Twentieth Century. The struggle for the novel’s publication, as well as Verne’s doubts as to whether humankind, obsessed as it is with technological development, has taken the right direction, is captured by the production’s realistic passages. Let yourself be carried away by the thrilling stories and colourful images of Verne’s novels, presented to you by Laterna magika in a breathtaking performance combining film, dance, drama and music.
