On a single stage, at a single moment, the characters (human and animal) from Kafka’s best-known works come to life. Amidst them appears the author himself, his despotic father, his mother, sister, mistresses. A reverse-mirror collage made up of Kafka’s texts serves to provide a view of his own life. The bizarre universe of the modernist genius will be transferred on to the stage by Kirill Serebrennikov, one of the most distinct contemporary Russia directors, endowed with an untamed imagination and an acute sense for the visual and musical components alike. Kafka’s world is not only havenless, as we well know it, but also dancing and singing. The production turns the icon depicted on tourist souvenirs into a living author, whose texts will be presented at the National Theatre in such scope for the very first time.
