A book that has become part of the Czech national consciousness, copies of which are handed down from generation to generation. A dream of her own childhood dreamt up by the most distinctive Czech female author of all time, written when she was experiencing some of the worst moments of her life. The character of Grandmother has become an archetype to which we can relate, part of an idyllic image of rural life where people are in harmony with themselves, those around them, nature and its cycles. Grandmother is one of the treasures of Czech literature and we can safely assume that it will become the backbone of the repertoire staged in the historical building of the National Theatre.
