The original Avenue Q opened on Broadway in 2003. Fifteen years later, the portuguese adaptation opened in Lisbon and somehow became almost a cult.

After two months of selling out every night in Teatro da Trindade, AVENIDA Q came back for a second run in a bigger theatre (Auditório dos Oceanos, Casino Lisboa). And the audiences did not disappoint! Its legion of fans kept on buying tickets (returning again and again to see the show), leaving comments and pictures on the Facebook page and even dressing up as Paula Porca.

This is truly a never-before-seen phenomenon in Portugal and we are definitely proud to witness it. The portuguese musical theatre scene is growing but it still has the problem of its main audiences being only children or elderly people. And AVENIDA Q came to shake things up: millennials started to come to the theatre and, for the first time in a very long time, it is possible to see all ages in the audience but, even more peculiar, groups of friends coming together to see a show.

These are the ones that now know everything about the blonde Paula Porca, the sweet Marta Monstro, the closeted gay Félix or any other character from this show that is not for children but that speaks directly to our inner child - being capable of making us laugh, cry or even leave the theatre thinking that not knowing what to do with our lives maybe is not that bad after all.

However, obviously, the success of AVENIDA Q is due to its incredible team. From the writers that so skillfully adapted the original script (Henrique Cardoso Dias and Rui Melo - also the director) and the musical director that managed to brilliantly turn a full orchestra score into a three musician piece without altering the final result (Artur Guimarães), to the amazing cast on stage (Ana Cloe, Diogo Valssassina, Gabriela Barros, Inês Aires Pereira, Manuel Moreira, Rodrigo Saraiva, Rui Maria Pêgo and Samuel Alves, André Galvão and Luís Neiva), the fierce producer that made this happen in the first place (Gonçalo Castel-Branco) and the amazing production team behind it all (Força de Produção).

Now, AVENIDA Q just opened in Teatro Sá da Bandeira, in Oporto, where its fans were waiting anxiously for them and finally saw their wishes come true.

Oporto please remember: everything in life is only for now - so, book your tickets and don't dare to miss the musical that revolutionized the musical theatre industry in Portugal!
