It's not every day that you can see a dancing tomato or a singing burger. Unless you go and see the latest musical by Plano 6: ASSALTO ÀS LANCHEIRAS.
Written by Ana Rangel, Dino Rodrigues and Nuno Pires (directed by Miguel Thiré and choreographed by Inês Afflalo), this is a musical where the Cherry Tomato and the Cauliflower are the King and Queen of the Healthy Kingdom, in war with the Lord Cheeseburger, the Soda and the Lollipop, to make sure kids get their balanced diets.
At first, it seems a bit silly but it truly has an essential goal behind it all: reminding kids (and parents!) of the importance of eating well. In a time where childhood obesity is a growing issue, shows like this are remarkably crucial to teach kids in a fun way.
The truth is that Plano 6 always cares about the educational side of theatre and that is what makes them one of the key players in the children's theatre show industry in Portugal.
As for ASSALTO ÀS LANCHEIRAS, it is a good show with skilled costume work (by Clivia Cohen) and great performances. José Lobo already became a household name in the last years and here he proves that even a cheeseburger can have an outstanding character study. José is definitely a unique actor that plays brilliantly with physicality and teaches any actor who sees him what great actor's preparation is all about. Nonetheless, there are other people who frankly deserve to be mentioned: Bruno Xavier (who is able to keep the buzzing energy of a soda can the whole entire show) and the smooth chocolaty performance by Daniel Cerca Santos.
