"The word ‘utopia’ is so loaded. I think about it a lot. What does it mean? Does it mean love? Does it mean family? Does it mean the beauty of the world unfurling before you?" —Sister Aurora
OUR UTOPIA delves into the darker side of an idealistic community. An Oregonian OUR TOWN, this immersive new play asks big questions about belonging, community, and our place in this world. Featuring an amazing cast including OSF favorite Vilma Silva as Sister Aurora, and Wyatt Fisher, August Gabriel, Lauren Bone Noble, Isabel Pask, and Emily Serdahl, with stage directions read by Asa Warnock.
ANPF 2021 New Voices playwright Carlos-Zenen Trujillo penned this play, a commission of Bag&Baggage Productions, which is co-producing this developmental reading. It is directed by ANPF Artistic Director Jackie Apodaca, with dramaturgy by Lue Morgan Douthit, the president/co-founder of Play On Shakespeare. Apodaca will also be directing the world premiere of this play in the fall at Bag&Baggage in Hillsboro, Oregon.
Come be a part of the creative process as this new play comes to life through the magic of a dramatic reading. Be sure to stay for the talkbacks and to share your insights with the artists.
Join us for the readings on Saturday, April 29, at 7:30 pm and Sunday, April 30 at 1:30 pm at SOU's Main Stage Theatre, 491 S. Mountain Ave, Ashland.
