"A New Brain," a musical by William Finn, is an autobiographical story that dives deep into the life of Gordon Schwinn, a composer grappling with a life-threatening brain condition.

While working on a song for a children’s television show, Gordon collapses and is rushed to the hospital. Faced with the uncertainty of his future, he confronts his fear of dying without having written his best work. Throughout his journey, he is supported by a colorful cast of characters, including his lover Roger, his mother, and a compassionate yet quirky hospital staff.

The musical explores themes of creativity, mortality, and the transformative power of love and art. With its heartfelt score and poignant lyrics, "A New Brain" is both a touching and uplifting narrative about finding one's true voice amidst the chaos of life.
