Volunteer assistance is needed for the 2010 OSAA State Solo Contest to be held at Linfield College on Saturday May 1, 2010. This is the first time Linfield College has hosted this event.

The 234th Army Reserve Band was to have fulfilled many of the volunteer roles. However, the 234th is unable to participate due to their military duties to perform for deployment and troop return on May 1.

Full-day volunteers are most needed but half-day volunteers are appreciated and will be scheduled as possible.

Full day volunteers begin promptly at 7am with an orientation and conclude around 5pm as contestants finish. Full day volunteers will receive breakfast and lunch.

Half-day volunteers will have access to some snacks but are encouraged to bring their own food and drink.

Full day volunteers will perform duties as door monitors and/or timers/announcers for the event. Other volunteer duties include registration tables, runners, guides to performance areas (and bathrooms), proctoring practice rooms, and general helpfulness to the over 1000 visitors to the Linfield College Campus and McMinnville.

If interested in volunteering, contact Professor Joan Paddock of Linfield College via email at jpaddock@linfield.edu or via telephone: 503-474-7345 (cell), 503-883-2258 (work).

About the OSAA

The OSAA is a non-profit, board-governed organization comprised of its member schools, both private and public. The OSAA is dedicated to ensuring equitable competition for Oregon high school students through OSAA-sponsored events. The foundation for that goal lies in a belief that no school, team or individual should be treated as any more or less than another.

OSAA standardized rules of eligibility and competition, and put in place a standard of education regarding participation in interscholastic activities. Administered equally and fairly, OSAA policies strive to allow no one school to outweigh its brethren.

The mission of the OSAA is to serve member schools by providing leadership and state coordination for the conduct of interscholastic activities, which will enrich the educational experiences of high school students. The OSAA will work to promote interschool activities that provide equitable participation opportunities, positive recognition and learning experiences to students, while enhancing the achievement of educational goals.
