triangle productions! honors female playwrights of the Harlem Renaissance with an evening of readings from its Outreach program THE BROWN PAPER BAG SERIES.
Four one-act plays, chosen out of several dozen "anti-lynching" plays written by women between 1916 and 1934, showcase these underrepresented writers in a single evening of readings. In light of recent violent acts against people of color, our collaborating professional artists are committed to sharing these plays in ways that elicit greater understanding of yesterday's events relating to today's environment.
Mary Burrill's AFTERMATH (1919); Corrie Crandall Howell's THE FORFEIT (1925); Georgia Douglas Johnson's BLUE-EYED BLACK BOY (1930), and SAFE (1929) will be presented at triangle on Monday June 12 at 7:00 PM. The directors are RaChelle Schmidt, Stephanie Mulligan, Andrea White, and Josie Seid. Stage Manager is Mandara Nott.
The acting ensemble includes Portland favorites Andrea White, Jennifer Lanier, Josie Seid, Kenneth Dembo, Don Kenneth Mason, Barbara Passolt, Arlena Barnes, Myles Lawrence, and Sami Yacob Andrus.
A discussion with the artists will follow the readings.
