For many Revels devotees, the Abbots Bromley horn dance is a magic moment in Christmas Revels. It is the Revels' adatation of one of the more vigorous dances long done with reindeer horns in the village of Abbots Bromley, Staffordshire.

The use of such age-old traditions is a signature aspect of the Revels, and Dick Lewis, Portland Revels Founder and a student of English folk customs, will talk about their evolution in a Salon program on 'Ritual Critters,' Thursday, Oct. 21st, from 7-9 pm at Taborspace, 5441 SE Belmont in Portland.

Here's a chance to learn about the Abbots Bromley dance, as well as some strange 'obby 'osses, like the Ravensthorp hobbies, the 'ooden 'oss of Kent, the Padstow 'Oss, and the very strange Mari Lwyd of Glamorgan in south Wales.
