Good Theater, the professional theater company in residence at the St. Lawrence Arts Center, 76 Congress Street, on MunJoy Hill in Portland, kicks off its 8th season with the Maine premiere of the recent Broadway hit, THE LITTLE DOG LAUGHED on September 17. THE LITTLE DOG LAUGHED by Douglas Carter Beane plays through October 11.

THE LITTLE DOG LAUGHED is a biting comedy about Hollywood. The story concerns a Hollywood actor who would like to come out of the closet, the hustler he falls for, the hustler's pregnant girlfriend and star's agent who tries to keep it all together and out of the newspapers. THE LITTLE DOG LAUGHED contains adult language, mature themes and brief nudity.

Good Theater's Artistic Director, Brian P. Allen directs THE LITTLE DOG LAUGHED and it stars Good Theater favorites Denise Poirier as the agent, Paul Drinan as the movie star along with Ian Carlson as the hustler and Good Theater newcomer, Casey Turner as the girlfriend. Craig Robinson designs the set with lighting design by Jamie Grant and Joshua Hurd is the production stage manager.

Performances of THE LITTLE DOG LAUGHED are Thursdays and Fridays at 7:30, Saturdays at 8:00 and Sundays at 2:00. There is an added Wednesday evening performance at 7:30 on September 23 and a Saturday matinee performance at 3:00 on October 3. THE LITTLE DOG LAUGHED was nominated for two 2007 Tony Awards including Outstanding Play and won the Tony Award for its outstanding leading actress, Julie White. The New York Times hailed the show as "...devastatingly funny, with dizzy, irresistible writing that brings down the house," while the New York Post called the show, "A fun evening, full of wit and wisdom."

In addition to THE LITTLE DOG LAUGHED, Good Theater will also present the Maine premieres of FROST/NIXON by Peter Morgan (October 29 - November 22) and THE SPITFIRE GRILL by James Vlacq and Fred Alley (January 21 - February 14) as well as the Oscar Wilde classic THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST (March 4 - 28). Good Theater will also offer two special events: THE DIVA AND ME written and performed by Brian P. Allen (September 29 & 30) and BROADWAY AT GOOD THEATER (December 3-6) the company's annual salute to Broadway and the holiday season.
