Once upon a time there was a very beautiful woman who hardly ever wanted or asked for anything until one day when she suddenly got--very extremely hungry. --Carly in Madeleine George, "The Most Massive Woman Wins"
Four women of various shapes and sizes sit patiently in a liposuction clinic. A mundane moment builds into a dance and the audience is welcomed in. Through a montage of time jumps, schoolyard rhymes, monologues, and video projections the women reveal their struggles and frustrations with themselves, male entitlement, and their mothers. Written in 1994, Madeleine George's challenging and hilarious one-act is still relevant today.
Comprised of mostly women of color, our production builds on George's work by bringing in a lens of the body positivity movement and inclusive feminism.
Each night will include a talk back with the actors, creative team, and guest panelists who will discuss the complex relationship between body image, gender, and race.
