The Story: On Christmas Eve 1977 in Philadelphia, nightclub singer Deloris Van Cartier (Kristin Robinson) decides to break it off with her gangster boyfriend Curtis (Greg Prosser) and strike out on her own as a recording artist. Unfortunately, she finds Curtis just in time to see him and his gang commit cold-blooded murder. Horrified, Deloris runs to the police station, where she finds her old schoolmate, "Sweaty" Eddie (Jeremy Southard), now a cop, and asks for his help. Eddie's solution? Place Deloris under protective custody in the last place Curtis would think to look for her - a convent!
Deloris is taken in by the convent's Mother Superior (Tracy Chiappone) and must learn to adapt to this strict new way of life where there is no drinking, no smoking and no "inappropriate" clothing. While Deloris at first struggles to fit in, she soon finds her calling as leader of the nuns' choir. With her disco style, she breathes new life into the church and community, and befriends the giddy Sister Mary Patrick (Leslie Irene Gale), stubborn Sister Mary Lazarus (Lisa Knox) and timid Sister Mary Robert (Christine Greenhalgh). However, as her choir gains more recognition, Deloris' cover is blown. Soon, Curtis and his gang give chase, only to find themselves up against Deloris and her newfound sisterhood.
