Portland State University College of the Arts and School of Theater + Film, in association with Our Shoes Are Red/The Performance Lab, present Caryl Churchill's FAR AWAY, directed by Devon Allen, November 13 through November 22, 2014. "If it's a party, why is there so much blood?"

FAR AWAY is a grown-up, true-to-life fable for adults - as harrowing as the Brothers Grimm - which, in the hands of Churchill, has at its center a love story. The play is a study of violence - hidden domestic violence, then institutionalized violence, and finally violence that is so pervasive it has seeped into and inoculated inanimate objects - making everything in service of war. The secrets the characters uncover as truths unravel around them are chilling and poignantly relevant.

The play is in triptych form and allows the director, designers, and actors to meet Caryl Churchill in the interpretive landscape, and to allow for the design elements to really underline the three distinct, dramatic movements of the play. The imaginative design team includes set and lighting by Dan Meeker, and costumes and hats by Alison Heryer.
