In celebration of St. Patrick, Portland Ovations presents traditional Irish ensemble Danú at Merrill Auditorium on Thursday, March 15th at 7:30pm.
Hailing from historic County Waterford, Danú is one of the leading traditional Irish ensembles of today. Performing high-energy concerts consisting of a glorious mix of ancient Celtic music and new repertoire, Danú always brings their audiences on a moving and memorable musical journey to their native Ireland. For over a decade, Danú's musicians on flute, tin whistle, fiddle, button accordion, bouzouki and vocals have traveled the globe playing thousands of stages, garnering praise, receiving awards and recording seven critically acclaimed albums.
Ovations Offstage offers a pre-performance lecture, "Performing Irish Literature and Theater" at 6:30 pm inside the Merrill Auditorium Rehearsal Hall. Susan and Tony Reilly, founders of the American Irish Repertory Ensemble, will facilitate a discussion of the joys and challenges of presenting Irish theater to American audiences, featuring anecdotes and performance.
Tickets for Danú range from $29 to $32 for Ovations' Members, $32 to $36 for the general public and a limited amount of $10 student tickets are also available.
