Throughout the month of July, Miracle Theatre Group has been hosting a variety of free classes and weekend workshops. From cooking to crafts, from music to dance - even circus skills - theatre staff and guest artists have been sharing their talents with the community. The entire month's activities culminate today, July 29 with "Fiesta en la calle" - an old-fashioned block party filled with food, drink, live music and dance as artists, students, nonprofit organizations and neighborhood businesses, all come together to celebrate the vitality of our inner Southeast Portland neighborhood.

Scheduled to participate are Comparsa Orgullo Morelense Cemiac dancers with their fascinating bigger-than-life costumes; the Bajo Salario Collective of musicians sharing their eclectic mix of indigenous, folkloric, ranchera music; Samuel Becerra and the other-wordly notes of a pan flute; the classically trained violin students of Laura Elena Jáuregui; the passonate dancers of Flamenco Callejero; and circus-style games of Wanderlust. A number of visual artists will be exhibiting their work, including Angela Bolaños-Osorio, Elements of Style, Karina Dale Art Studio, Shannon Eaton and Tina and Monica Harris. And the diversity of our neighborhood businesses will be on display, too, with Michelle's Pianos wheeling out 88 keys to the street, Center Space opening its doors to a samba class, and Rocket Werks displaying custom choppers.

"Fiesta en la calle" is free and open to the public and takes place today, July 29, 2012, from 12 to 4 p.m. outside El Centro Milagro, on SE Sixth Avenue between Stark and Oak Streets. For more information, call 503-236-7253 or visit www.milagro.org.
