Miracle Theatre Group, the Northwest's premier Latino arts and culture organization, announces its 2013-2014 season featuring an exciting line-up of four stage productions, including one world premiere, a national touring production and a play in Spanish with easy-to-follow supertitles in English.
Miracle kicks off its 30th anniversary season with its fourth annual La Luna Nueva festival, a multidisciplinary celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month featuring live music and dance performances, staged readings of new plays, open-mic poetry nights and more. A complete schedule will be announced later this summer for events offered from September 13-28, 2013.
In October, A WAKE! Milagro's celebration of Día de los muertos, a fresh and original bilingual work created and directed by Lakin Valdez of the legendary Teatro Campesino, will delight in the style of the classic obra calavera, bringing corridos, raunchy humor and bittersweet irony to death.
In January,Teatro Milagro's touring company brings a howling coyote telling secrets of the Sonoran desert and making promises he cannot keep in the bilingual production Cuéntame Coyote ...
In February, the romantic verses of Pablo Neruda inspire us to love and take action during the turbulent times of Ardiente Paciencia. (presented in Spanish, with easy-to-follow supertitles in English) ...
And in May, Milagro will wrap up our season with an outrageous, no-holds-barred comedy about the price of fame and fortune in Learn to be Latina.
Also on the schedule are a number of special events, including touring productions of Aventuras de Don Quixote and the touring premier of El Niño Diego, performing at libraries and schools around the Portland metropolitan region; Cuéntame Coyote's tour to universities and community centers around the country; Miracle's annual community Christmas celebration, Posada Milagro; and Mundo de las mujeres featuring Spanish-language performance, community forum and a resource fair for the 2014 International Women's Day. El Centro Milagro continues to host regular exhibitions of work by regional Latino visual artists along with a variety of community meetings and events, including the Small- and Mid-sized Arts Coalition, Los Porteños Latino Writers Group, Opciones y Educación the Latino Artists eXchange and many others.
