Lakewood Theatre Company to Offer Arts Classes in Acting, Video, and Voice This Fall

Lakewood Theatre Company will be presenting a variety of classes in acting, television production, voice, and improvisation for its fall term beginning September 19.

Saturdays, Sept. 19 - Nov. 21 10 weeks

Classes held off-site at Actor Studio Northwest
LTC Studio Pro is a training program for dedicated young actors who want to have fun while gaining confidence, presentation, and life skills. Students will have the opportunity to participate in LTC-TV webisodes featuring students as reporters and crew members. Other professional workshops are offered to Studio Pro actors throughout the year.
The curriculum focuses on reality acting, applicable for film, television, and theater, and is designed for students who want to perform. Students learn many aspects of the television and film mediums, including TV/Film acting, filming, directing and more. Performances on camera and with a live television audience are some of the additional highlights, with the final viewing on the Lakewood Theatre's Headlee Mainstage Big Screen.
Classes will be held at Actors Studio Northwest, 6200 SW Virginia Ave. Suite 200, Portland, Oregon 97239.
Note: The LTC Studio Pro program is open to students by teacher approval through: open audition, phone interview or enrollment in a previous TV/Film classes at the Lakewood Theatre. Contact Lakewood Theatre at 503-635-3901 to schedule an audition/interview.
Kids Create - The Tree Elves!
Saturdays, Sept. 19 - Nov. 7 8 weeks

Children will step into the world of creating, designing and making their own show from pure imagination. Through games, play, art, music and dance students will create an exciting show. Remember to bring a snack and get ready to have a wonderful time. Performance on the last day of class.

Acting For Non Actors: Agatha Christie, Queen of Crime

Fall is the time when Acting for Non Actors explores the world of the actor by using the life and work of a playwright. This time it's Agatha Christie, because, well, what actor wouldn't want to sink their teeth into a murder mystery? With detectives, dead bodies and divas everywhere, what's a poor suspect to do? But is there more to this great writer than meets the eye? Hmm. Sounds like a mystery, which is just the thing for a cold, rainy autumn night. Join us as we become acting detectives and look for clues in the writing of Agatha Christie.

Grimm to Glee TV
Tuesdays, Sept. 22 - Nov. 10 8 weeks

Have fun while practicing on-camera acting skills. Become a star acting in front of the camera and create scenes like the television series Grimm, based on the Grimm Brothers Fairy Tales, with lots of villains, heroines, and monsters. Throw in some comedy and GLEE TV and have a blast while learning television production. Parents are invited to observe the last class in action! Class limited to 8 students.

It was 600 years ago when the Battle of Agincourt became the stuff of legend. And less than 200 years later, Shakespeare made this prince immortal. Come join the exploration of one of William Shakespeare's most influential and inspiring history plays, as we give voice to Henry V, Shakespeare's ideal monarch,the actual 600th anniversary of the battle! Moving through the entire play, we will also explore what makes this work meaningful to us today and how timeless its lessons are. And yes, we will feast, and show our scars. No previous experience required. You'll be acting, reading, reflecting and sharing with others of all ages. Come dressed for comfort. BYO lunch at the break.

An ongoing, in-depth class for actors who want to advance their acting skills while preparing themselves for work. Students work on scenes, monologues, auditions and storytelling, with a teacher who brings decades of experience in the professional world of NY and Hollywood. Meet and work with other actors to learn what's going on locally. This class is designed for actors who are serious about pursuing professional acting opportunities. Prerequisite: Fun-damentals of Acting with Nancy McDonald or another foundational acting class. Note: If you have not taken the prerequisite class or studied with her before, Nancy will want to have a phone conversation before you register. Returning students encouraged.

Fun-damentals of Acting

This is a class for actors returning to the craft and feeling a bit rusty, for seasoned veterans who need a place to stretch and develop their skills, or for the actor who is ready for the next level and looking for a fun, safe environment that builds trust and confidence. With a focus on the foundations of the actor's work, this class will cover choice of material, script analysis, scene study, auditions, and the emotional journey, all while discovering your own "technique" by exposure to various methods and processes that have stood the test of time. Your instructor has studied with some of the most prestigious schools and instructors, worked with accomplished directors, and performed in about every genre of acting over her long career. She brings that expertise to this class and your work. This class is a pre-requisite for the Professional Actors Class.

Whether you're interested in a crash course as a beginner or a brush up as a pro, this playful four-hour workshop will teach you how to improvise songs, melodies, lyrics and more with the accompaniment of a real live musician. As a cast member of award-winning Girls Girls Girls: Improvised Musicals (Austin, TX) and long-time improv music maker, Aden Kirschner will guide you along the path to find your inner rock star. You'll develop and deepen your abilities to create simple repetitive choruses, detailed verses and playful bridges. This class covers three of the most commonly used song structures in improvised theatre, several lyrical strategies, and some delightful ways of sharing songs with your scene partners. Get ready to make up some on-the-spot awesome! You'll be sure to have a song in your heart and a skip in your step when you're done. There are no pre-requisites for this course and ability to sing is not required.

Everyone has great stories to tell, yet often our rich heritage of family stories go untold, never shared and lost to all future descendants. This class will help you find your important stories and explore various ways (video, audio recordings, performance and publication) of sharing them with your family and the wider extended family of which we are all a part. Oral histories and memoirs are now extremely popular. Come discover your own ancestral gold!

It's Never Too Late To Sing
Tuesdays, Sept. 29 - Dec. 1 10 weeks

You will never know the full potential of your own singing voice until you take this step. This class is for you if you want to audition for musicals, sing with friends, perform karaoke or prepare for competitions. This class is especially aimed at the individual who wants to be prepared for any occasion and any role, including the ones that require a song or two. Learn the full range of your voice, how to carry a tune and how to sell a song. Class limit 10.
