Julie Taymor to be Presented With AIFF Award, 4/15

According to Ashland Daily Tidings, Tony award-winning director Julie Taymor will receive an Ashland Independent Film Festival award.

She will be presented with the 2012 Artistic Achievement Award on Sunday, April 15 during the Awards Celebration which will be held at the Historic Ashland Armory.

Ashland Independent Film Festival will hold an on-stage with Taymor on Friday, April 13. The interview, "Essential Transformation: In Conversation with Julie Taymor," will be led by Oregon Shakespeare Festival Artistic Director Bill Rauch.

"Taymor will share behind-the-scenes footage illustrating her creative process and provide audiences with an opportunity to learn about her process of adapting existing works to New Mediums."

American director Julie Taymor is one of the most celebrated and controversial artists working today. Her production of The Lion King earned her the honor of being the first woman to ever win a Tony Award for directing a musical, as well as a Tony Award for Costume Design. Her highly-publicized production Spiderman: Turn Off the Dark is currently running on Broadway. Other films by Taymor include Titus, and Frida, which was nominated for six Oscars, winning two. Her film Across the Universe, a love story set to the music of The Beatles, received a Golden Globe nomination.
