The concert is set to take place at the Alberta Rose Theatre on April 28th.
Chamber Music Northwest (CMNW), in Portland, Ashland's Anima Mundi Productions and Eugene-based Oregon Bach Festival present Imani Winds with a concert centering and premiering co-commissioned compositions by three Pacific Northwest composers of color that offer new perspectives into our region's history and new hope for the future. We Cannot Walk Alone is the final concert of the 2021/22 year-round season and will be held at the Alberta Rose Theatre on Thursday, April 28 at 7:30pm.
Hailed as "dazzling" and "exhilarating" by The Washington Post, the CMNW favorites and Grammy-nominated Imani Winds return to Chamber Music Northwest after their 2017/18 residency. Known for
their dynamic playing, adventurous programming, and imaginative collaborations, the Imani Winds will premiere We Cannot Walk Alone, a program that explores the lived experiences of three of the region's composers Miguel del Águila (Washington), Yuan-Chen Li (Oregon), and Damien Geter (Oregon). The concert will also include Imani Winds selected works: Sontonga's Nkosi si ke Leli (South African National Anthem) arranged by Valerie Coleman, Nathalie Joachim's Seen (2021), and Jason Moran's Cane (2008).
In keeping with the Imani's strong work with youth, CMNW and Anima Mundi have partnered with Portland Public Schools to offer a free student matinee on April 28 at Roosevelt High School, in North Portland. Students from various schools within PPS will be the first audience to experience these important newly-commissioned works, and listen to world-class musicians perform We Cannot Walk Alone.
