SPLAT is the fifth play in Carol Triffle's series of whimsical, off-kilter musicals examining small moments and large tragedies in the comedic turmoil of a lead heroine. SPLAT plays at Imago Theatre, 17 SE 8th Avenue from May 19 to June 4. SPLAT continues in Triffle's eccentric non-linear approach to comedy and theatre where things are never played out as expected and song is interspersed not to accent the action but more to flip it over.
Cinder Block, Triffle's lead character played by Danielle Vermette is learning French on her Rosetta Stone Tapes when the voice on the tape tells her to do strange things "take your clothes off... make me a sandwich and place it on the porch.. run around naked!" The voice on the tape asks her to go to her basement where Cinder has stashed a dead body. Cinder is joined by Ink Blot, a mobster "cleaner" to get her out of the fix, but it doesn't take long before co-conspirators and even the dead body join in on the tilted narrative and comic songs.
Triffle collaborates with Katie Griesar on the original songs. Artistic Co-Director Jerry Mouawad plays Ink Blot. Triffle favorites Kyle Delamarter and Robert Gaynor return, as well as Horatio Alexander who was last seen in Imago's Stage Left Lost.
