Jerry Mouawad will be continuing his series of "Opera Beyond Words" with the premiere of Tick Tack Type opening March 11 for four shows only. Performances will be at Imago Theatre, 17 SE 8th Avenue, on March 11, 12 & 13 at 8PM and March 14 at 3PM. All tickets are free and can be reserved by emailing imagotheatre@gmail.com. The performance is recommended for ages 16 and older.

The plot of Tick Tack Type revolves around nine men and woman who are dropped from a chute into a stark empty room to discover themselves as particpants in a strange typing academy. In this Becktian landscape Mouawad's characters search for ways to compete and survive under the rule of a tyrannical typing instructor played by Artistic Co-director Carol Triffle. Not unlike his two previous works Apis, or The Taste of Honey, and The Cuban Missile Tango, Mouawad has fashioned theatre without words to explore comedic and tragic drama. However unlike the previous works the creator notes that Tick Tack Type will remain in a universe that is primarily abstract.

This season, in a desire to have as many people as possible see the company's fringe productions, Imago is offering two productions free to the public. Contributed income and revenue from popular work enables Imago to offer contemporary theatre at zero cost to adventorous theater goers. Attendants at the shows will be asked to donate if they so desire.

Imago Theatre was founded in 1979 by Carol Triffle and Jerry Mouawad. From adaptations of classics to excursions into vaudevillian existentialism, Imago's repertoire is as vast as the forms they shape. With commissions for stage, film, and television, Imago blurs the lines of the expected to break new ground, exploding performance boundaries yet maintaining humor and humanity.

Imago Theatre tours internationally while also producing a season at its home base in Portland, Oregon. The company's critically acclaimed FROGZ opened at the New Victory Theater on Broadway in New York, in April of 2000 and returned to the New Victory in May 2002. FROGZ also performed a smash hit month-ling run at the award-winning American Repertory Theatre in Cambridge, Massachusets in the summer of 2005.
