Sartre's No Exit Imbalanced by Imago
Runs through NOV 15
When Jerry Mouawad first read Sartre's No Exit, he laughed. Not the most common reaction to this dire and sometimes barren play in which three characters are trapped in a room in hell. In 1998, Mouawad re-invented No Exit for modern audiences by staging it on a three-dimensional plane that tipped with every step. He infused the show with comedic vaudevillian gags, bringing out the funny in the unexpected. The response was overwhelming. To critical and audience acclaim, the production was revived at Imago in 2001 and 2005. In 2006, Mouawad's production reached the national limelight when he was invited to stage the show at two Tony-Award winning theatres - American Repertory Theatre in Boston and Hartford Stage Company. The production won numerous design, direction and acting awards on both coasts, including Boston's prestigious Elliot Norton Award.
