Village Theatre is thrilled to produce the critically-acclaimed new musical commie-dy Iron Curtain. This production will play for the final time on May 22, 2011 in downtown Everett, at the Everett Performing Arts Center.

The writing team behind this hysterical new musical brings together three award-winning talents. Librettist Susan DiLallo was the 2008 Kleban Prize and Jonathan Larson Award-winner for "the most promising librettist in musical theater." Lyricist Peter Mills was the 2010 Kleban Prize-winner for "the most promising lyricist in musical theater," and composer Stephen Weiner was the recipient of the 2010 Richard Rogers Award for his musical Rocket Science. TalkinBroadway.com says Weiner's music in Iron Curtain, "effortlessly combines the glitz and glamour of Golden Age Broadway with scintillating Soviet song stylings."

The 2006 production of Iron Curtain by Prospect Theater won the New York Innovative Theater Award as Best Off-Off Broadway Musical for 2006 and received rave reviews across the board. The New York Times called the show "gleefully ridiculous" and CurtainUp.com described the show as having, "a deliciously ditzy book by Susan DiLallo, song after melodic song by Stephen Weiner with devilishly clever lyrics by Peter Mills." In 2007, the show received a production at Los Posidas Community College in Northern California, as well as a showcase at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival by the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, and a Village Originals Festival of New Musicals reading at Village Theatre. The show was further developed in 2008 in various parts of the country and was developed further by Village Theatre as a workshop presentation.

The 2011 Mainstage production of Iron Curtain at Village Theatre comes with great excitement. Artistic director Steve Tomkins directs and co-choreographs this production, which features world premiere orchestrations by Remy Kurs. Of the collaboration with Village Theatre, Weiner commented, "the first class resources that the theatre offers, top local talent that rivals Broadway, and a dedicated and seasoned creative team creates the perfect incubator for new works."

Synopsis: When the Soviets set out to create a Broadway musical, they decide they'll need to bring in some real New York writers - by force, if necessary. Enter Howard and Murray, two down and out musical theatre writers, who are on the brink of throwing in the towel. Kidnapped, taken to Moscow, and forced to fix the worst musical ever written, these two characters suddenly find themselves working under the gun...literally! With an uproarious and upbeat score, Iron Curtain is a knock 'em down hit with laughs at every corner.
