Two recent graduates of Portland Experimental Theatre Ensemble's Institute for Contemporary Performance join together to debut two groundbreaking, original new works. The Squeeze and Castaway Cabaret will run back-to-back each evening, with a combined runtime of under 90 minutes.

Seven years ago, a series of life-changing experiences left Clifton with some questions. The Squeeze is an experiential dream world woven from projection, music, performance and podcasts that revisits some of these questions. A continuation of previous Fertile Ground productions ID[EA] (2015) and This Thing That We Made (2017), and in the spirit of August Strindberg's A Dream Play and Alejandro Jodorowski's The Holy Mountain, The Squeeze strives to rectify the scientific and spiritual, the physical and metaphysical, the chemical and alchemical. When the universe is wrung out, what fibers remain? Runtime 25 minutes.

Castaway Cabaret: Born out of a 90-second juggling routine Jake made to promote his award-winning solo show ...like nobody's watching at festivals around the globe, Castaway Cabaret (The second Jake's planned Castaway Trilogy) is a raucous celebration of isolation. Developed during Jake's Barn Arts Hamilton Residency off the coast of Maine this summer, and then workshopped at the Hamilton (Ontario) Fringe Festival, this 79th Avenue Festival run is a World Premiere. Runtime 50 minutes.

Castaway Cabaret and the Squeeze run back-to-back, while attending just one is allowed we encourage you to catch both.

A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Clifton has been performing on stage for the last 20 years. Clifton has been creating theatre in Portland since 2014, most recently with defunkt theatre (Slipping, Blasted and Cock) and Shaking the Tree (The Caucasian Chalk Circle). The Squeeze is Clifton's first solo performance of length and is a culmination of work he's been developing over the past two years, but the roots of the project dig all the way down to 2011. Clifton holds a BFA in Acting from Ohio University, has trained with Dell 'Arte International and is a graduate of The Institute of Contemporary Performance at Portland Experimental Theatre Ensemble.

Jake is an award-winning theatre maker based in Portland, Oregon. His critically acclaimed solo work ...like nobody's watching is the first of a planned Castaway Trilogy, other original works include The Everything I Know Show and Punchline Play. Jake has performed in New York City, London, Australia, all across Canada (Ottawa, Hamilton, Toronto & Vancouver). In Portland, Jake has worked with Portland Experimental Theatre Ensemble, Portland Playhouse, Action/Adventure, Lakewood (2XOTAS nominee) & Clackamas Rep. Jake is a recipient of the Barn Arts Collective Hamilton Project residency, and he hosts a conversation podcast called likenobodyslistening, which you can find wherever you find podcasts.

Tickets are $10. More info at https://www.jakesimonds.com/79th-avenue-festival.html
