Portland's festive, family friendly favorite, A Christmas Carol returns to Portland Playhouse December 1-29

Portland's festive, family friendly favorite returns to Portland Playhouse with stars of A Christmas Carol's past and shining new stars of the future.

In its sixth year at Portland Playhouse, this holiday tradition combines the classic, heartwarming tale with surprising elements of theatre magic, live music and just enough whimsy to thaw the hearts of every Scrooge. The cast of just over a dozen bring alive nearly forty characters as well as perform original music by Rick Lombardo and Anna Lackaff alongside well loved Christmas tunes.

Cycerli Ash makes her Playhouse debut as all of the ghostly spirits who visit on Christmas Eve and guide the grumpy miser, through a redemptive and transformative journey towards friendship and love. Drew Harper returns to play Ebenezer Scrooge, having originated the role at the Playhouse in the first three productions in 2013-15.

Hopeful, musical, and above all fun, this is one holiday tradition that will make even the most miserly of Scrooges proclaim, "Merry Christmas, everyone!"

Brian Weaver (director) co-founded Portland Playhouse in 2008 with Nikki and Michael, and has directed productions of Scarlet, Peter and the Starcatcher, Mr. Burns, a Post-Electric Play, Radio Golf, Gem of the Ocean, Angels in America, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, The Light in the Piazza, and bobrauschenbergamerica. Regional credits include Intiman Theatre Company, Shakespeare & Company, Berkshire Theatre Festival and Idaho Shakespeare Festival. Brian is on the Board of Outside In, a member of Creating Connections, a national public will building campaign for arts, and serves on the Oregon Arts Leaders for Inclusion Coalition.
