Lohengrin at Teatr Wielki - Opera Narodowa, Moniuszko Auditorium

A mythical tale about the confrontation between good and evil, impossible love, loneliness and longing – topics which fascinated the composer to such a degree that he devoted almost his whole life to them. In this case, the love of Elsa and Lohengrin cannot be fulfilled – due both to Lohengrin’s origin (he is a knight of the Holy Grail, a messenger of God, a supernatural being) and to the tragedy of human fate in general. Even the famous Bridal Chorus, written by Wagner for his niece and played so often at wedding ceremonies today, won’t help... This staging by Antony McDonald, a director and stage designer who has prepared productions at the Met in New York, the Royal Opera House in London, and the Nationale Reisopera in the Netherlands, is a co-production with the Welsh National Opera.
