Shakespeare’s output has frequently inspired choreographers. That is why the Polish National Ballet will realize a repertoire project preceding the celebrations of the 400th anniversary of the Stratfordian Bard’s death. A Midsummer Night’s Dream shall open the cycle of Shakespeare premieres. Many choreographers have made use of this play but John Neumeier’s version surpasses them all. His ballet fully expresses the magic and the spirit of the Shakespearean play. This charming play about a love mix-up in real life and in the fantastic world of, the elves is one of the most valuable productions of this great choreographer. The three worlds in which Shakespeare’s heroes roam find their reflection both in choreography and in music. And everything has been presented by the choreographer with extraordinary empathy, humour and poetry. This is one of the most beautiful lyrical comedies in contemporary ballet repertoire.
