This overseas showcase in September precedes the major eight-week run of United Solo scheduled for October and November in New York City.
2013 United Solo Europe Presents:Ewa Kasprzyk in "Patty Diphusa." Written by Pedro Almodóvar! Sept. 13, 2013 at 6pm. A marvellous scene of a heroine's transformation, when she confesses to unrequited love and takes off the kitsch wig, shows that from behind the mask of the tart emerges the inhumanly tired face of a resigned woman, overwhelmed by loneliness and awareness of her passing beauty, which so far has made her attractive in the eyes of the public - that means - no-one. Director: Marta Ogrodzi?ska. Translation: Hanna Torrent-Piasecka and Caryl Swift. Adaptation: Remigiusz Grzela. Make-up: Hubert Grabowski.
Herbert Kaluza in "The Story of My Dovecote." Performed in four languages! Sept. 13, 2013 at 8pm. The Story of my Dovecote is based on a short story by Jewish writer Isaac Babel. This unique performance captures the atmosphere of Jewish life and culture in early 20th century Odessa. An old man recalls a story from his childhood, in which he had his first experience with pogrom in the marketplace, on the same day that his father made him a present of a dovecote. Mr. Kaluza will perform in English, German, Polish and Russian! Director: Christoph Munk. Artistic Representative: Marek Gierszal.
Mark Gindick in "Wing-Man." A comedian featured by American TV PBS! Sept. 14, 2013 at 6pm. Wing-Man restores faith in the "world wide web" of comic humanity in a hot pursuit of ideal romantic love. Without a single live spoken word, physical comedian and clown Mark Gindick builds a romantic relationship with the audience in the tradition of silent comedians and clowns, reveling in the angst, humor and joy in our search for love. Director: West Hyler. Producer: Michael Bongar.
Bill Bowers in "It Goes Without Saying." In the spirit of Marcel Marceau! Sept. 14, 2013 at 8pm. Compared to the work of David Sedaris and Claudia Shear, It Goes Without Saying is a "75 minute joyride" that blends mime and storytelling into an autobiographical tour-de-force. In an evening of hilarious, heartbreaking, and unbelievable true stories, Bill takes you on a scenic tour of his life thus far: from growing up in rural Montana, to Broadway, to studying with legendary Marcel Marceau.
Regina Advento in "Dreamlines." Created by a member of Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch! Sept. 15, 2013 at 8pm. After nearly two decades as a member of Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch, Regina Advento presents her first independent solo project. "Dreamlines" is a manifestation of fantasy, creativity and artistic liberation. The theme is based on Regina's personal reflections linked to her Brazilian ancestry. The style is influenced by Pina, yet represents Regina's individual physical expression.
