KRAKW, Poland, May 13, 2016 /PRNewswire/

Poland is the Guest of Honor at BookExpo America, where booksellers, librarians, and publishing professionals come from around the country to learn about new books coming out in the next year and to attend meetings and book signings with over 600 authors. After BookExpo, Chicago's McCormick place opens up to the general public for BookCon, where consumers can come and meet the authors as well.

Polish authors present at the convention and at events around Chicago include journalist Artur Domosawski, who was in conversation with distinguished war reporter, Sebastian Junger at Chicago's University Club. Agata Tuszyska launched her "Family History of Fear" just published by Knopf. Postmodern novelist, Magdalena Tulli presented her four short novels from Archipelago Books, translated by Bill Johnston who received the Found in Translation Prize at Poland's opening event at the Chopin Theatre on May 11, 2016. Zygmunt Mioszewski presented his Prosecutor Teodor Szacki crime trilogy from Bitter Lemon Press, and there was a large display about Andrzej Sapkowski's fantasy series, "The Witcher" and the popular role-playing game based on Sapkowski's novels.

Poland has a featured space near the convention's entrance where 27 publishers from Poland are represented, organized by the Polish Book Institute in collaboration with the Polish Cultural Institute-New York. There are displays of children's books by Poland's best illustrators, including Aleksandra and Daniel Mizieliski as well as Magorzata Gurowska and Joanna Ruszczyk, who are present at the book fair. They have a collection of recommended titles by Polish writers, many of which have been translated with funding from the Polish Book Institute, and books about Poland and Polish History, with a large representation from Aquila Polonica publishers in the US.
