A hit musical both in London, Broadway and on tour across the States since premiering in 2008, everybody's favorite grumpy green ogre will be saving Fiona and the kingdom of Duloc when he comes to the Benedum Center this July for a limited run only! Shrek the Musical is delightfully enchanting, hugely entertaining and definitely larger than life, with a brilliant blend of light-hearted humor and satire, with fantastic original songs to boot.
What is it about?
Based on the 2001 Academy Award-winning Dreamworks movie, this stage adaptation sees a lonely ogre stepping up the save the fate of a princess and a kingdom from the clutches of a diminutive yet wicked ruler in the form of Lord Farquaad. With the help of his "trusty steed", the motor-mouthed, hyperactive Donkey, he sets out to reclaim his swampy home from the hundreds of homeless fairytale creatures forced to squat on his land.
However, in order to reclaim his home, he is tasked with rescuing a trapped princess from a dragon-guarded tower, in order for Farquaad to marry. But it turns out that this princess, Fiona, isn't the shrinking violet, damsel-in-distress type. And she has a startling secret of her own that will change the course of both Shrek's life, and the kingdom's future forever. Looks are deceiving, as Fiona and Shrek learn pretty quickly!
