York Little Theatre is holding auditions on August 24 and 25, for their upcoming production of the musical Beauty and the Beast which runs November 6 - 22, 2009.

Beauty and the Beast is Broadway's classic fairy-tale in which a young woman's life is transformed into a fantastic adventure when she becomes the key to breaking an enchantress' curse on a spoiled prince. With music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Tim Rice, and a book by Linda Woolverton, the musical is based on the 1991 Disney film of the same name and ran on Broadway for 5,464 performances from 1994 to 2007, becoming Broadway's sixth-longest running production. The stage version of Beauty and the Beast includes all the beloved songs found in the film along with a few new songs.

Auditioners should contact York Little Theatre either at info@ylt.org or 717-854-3894 to schedule an appointment. Audition requirements include 16 bars or 1 minute of a song in the traditional Broadway genre. Actresses auditioning for Belle should prepare two songs-one demonstrating a natural voice and one highlighting a belting voice. Everyone will read cold selections from the script and should come dressed comfortably for a dance/movement audition.

York Little Theatre is a nonprofit community theatre which values and nurtures the irreplaceable role of the arts and is dedicated to engaging and enriching its entire, diverse community in the dramatic arts through a broad range of professionally directed, entertaining, stimulating, and sometimes provocative performances.
