Actress Kim Richards has had a good run being a nun, having played the character of Sister in the Late Nite Catechism series for the years. So it's only fitting that she gives a little back, with the help of her audiences.
At the sold out August performances at Totem Pole Playhouse, Richards would pass the metaphorical collection plate every night, asking theatergoers to contribute a little for the retired nuns of the Sisters of Saints Cyril and Methodius of Danville, PA. During the comedy, in which Richards plays a stern nun running a lesson on Catholic sacraments, latecomers and cut-ups would be fined a dollar each - and the fines all went to the fund as well.
Between the fines and the offerings for collection, Totem Pole audiences generously contributed $6,812.00 over the course of eight shows. Richards and Totem Pole Artistic Director
Ray Ficca presented the donation to Sister Denise Fallet following the final performance.
"Seeing the look on Sister Denise's face was worth every effort that went into putting on this show," said Ficca. "And these nuns desperately need this money to care for the retired and elderly of their order."
Totem Pole Playhouse presents its 62 Season in May 2012. The Playhouse is one of the few remaining professional summer stock theatres in the country.
