The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, 91.3fm WYEP and Three Rivers Arts Festival, through the CD Live! Concert series, are pleased to announce the return engagement of The Decemberists on Tuesday, April 21, 2011 at the Benedum Center in the Downtown Pittsburgh Cultural District. Showtime is 8 p.m. Tickets for the Decemberists go on sale Friday, February 11. Opening for The Decemberists is Justin Townes Earle (son of singer-songwriter Steve Earle).

Led by Colin Meloy, The Decemberists craft theatrical, idiosyncratic chamber pop rock that seamlessly translates to unforgettable live performances. Bridging the gap between British folk revival and contemporary indie pop, The Decemberists are one of the most innovative and important creative forces in contemporary music today.

Following the success of their mystical epic The Hazards of Love, The Decemberists return with their sixth album, The King Is Dead. In their latest recording, The Decemberistsillustrate the power that evolves from a creative call-and-response process.
To Colin Meloy, The King is Dead represents his own musical journey coming full circle. "Over the last eleven years or so, since I moved to Portland, I feel like I've been mining mostly English traditions for influence." "I've kind of come back to a lot of the more American music that got me going in the first place - R.E.M. and Camper Van Beethoven and all these bands that borrowed from more American traditions like Neil Young and the Byrds."

Tickets $39.50 and $34.50 may be purchased at the Box Office at Theater Square (655 Penn Avenue), by visiting pgharts.org or by calling 412-456-6666. To purchase 10 or more tickets at special discounted rates, please call 412-471-6930.
